“Seit den 1990er Jahren wendet sich Stefan Rummel installativen Arbeiten, Environments und Klanginstallationen zu. Die Integration von Klängen und Geräuschen in seinen Werken versteht er als Erweiterung des bildnerisch-künstlerischen Materials ebenso wie als sensorische Öffnung. In den Arbeiten sind die unterschiedlichen Medien, die verwendeten Materialien und Klänge, sensibel gegeneinander ausbalanciert. Für die formale Gestaltung greift er dabei häufig auf das vor Ort Gefundene und Beobachtete zurück, auf Trouvaillen wie besondere Geräusche und Klänge zum Beispiel, die er aufzeichnet oder auf bauliche Formen, die charakteristisch sind. Er wandelt diese ab, kombiniert sie auf ungewohnte Weise und verarbeitet sie zu eigenständigen, neuen Formen.

“In the mid-1990s Stefan Rummel turned his attentions to installative works, environments and sound installations. He sees the integration of sounds and noises in his work as an extension of the visual artistic material as well as a sensorial opening. In Rummel’s work, the different media, the materials and sounds used, are balanced out with a degree of sensitivity. For the formal design, he often falls back on things found and observed on site, on trouvailles such as special noises or sounds which he records, or structural forms that are characteristic. He adapts them, combines them in an unusual way and processes them into autonomous new forms.”
“… A mediados de los años 90 se dedicó ya a los trabajos instalativos, al arte ambiental y a las instalaciones sonoras. La integración de sonidos y ruidos en sus obras son para Rummel tanto una extensión del material artístico como una manifestación sensorial. En los trabajos de este artista, los distintos medios, los materiales utilizados y los sonidos están equilibrados de forma sensible. Para la configuración formal recurre con frecuencia a objetos encontrados y a observaciones hechas in situ, a hallazgos sonoros, como ruidos y sonidos especiales, que graba, y a formas arquitectónicas características. Rummel lo transforma todo, combina unas cosas con otras de una manera inusual y las reelabora hasta convertirlas en formas nuevas e independientes.”
